Meet the Directors William R. Detrick - Symphony Orchestra William Detrick holds both a Bachelor and Master of Music Education degree from Kansas State University. He has spent twenty-three of the last twenty-seven years as a music educator with the Olathe Public Schools. Mr. Detrick is currently Orchestra Program Facilitator for the Olathe School District and is a founding director of the Olathe Area Youth Symphony Association. He is also a member of the Olathe Public Arts Comission which works to support both the visual and performing arts in the Olathe community. William Detrick holds memberships in the Music Educators National Conference, Kansas Music Educators Association and the International Association of Jazz Educators. Mr. Detrick has served as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the Midwest. Gregory Ferguson - Symphony Orchestra Gregory Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, and a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Baker University School of Professional and Graduate Studies. He began his career with the Olathe Public Schools in 1985 and has been the Director of Orchestras at Olathe South High School since 1987. Under Mr. Ferguson’s direction the Olathe South High School Orchestra has consistently received first division ratings at State Music Festivals. The Olathe South Orchestra has toured Southern California, Texas, Florida, Chicago and most recently Boston. Mr. Ferguson is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the American String Teachers Association, and the Kansas Music Educators Association. He is a founding director of the Olathe Area Youth Symphony Association.

John Hepford - Philharmonic Orchestra John Hepford holds a Bachelor's of Music Education degree from the University of Kansas. John spent four years teaching band and choir at Pleasant Ridge Junior High and High School before joining the Olathe District Instrumental Music staff five years ago. Currently Mr. Hepford is the band director at Chisholm Trail Junior High and is also the Junior High Band Chair for the Kansas Music Educator's Northeast District. As a percussionist he has performed with the Johnson County Wind Symphony, the Kansas Wind Symphony, and Theater in the Park. Mr. Hepford has been a percussion clinician for the Deleware Valley League Mass Band Festival since 2003. Lori McDermott - Philharmonic Orchestra Mrs. McDermott holds a Bachelor's of Music Education degree from the University of Iowa and is currently working on her Master's in Education Curriculum Leadership from Emporia State University. Lori has spent 13 years as a strings specialist with the last 4 as a member of the Olathe District Instrumental Music staff. Mrs. McDermott currently teaches elementary strings and 7th and 8th grade orchestra at Chisholm Trail Junior High. Lori has performed as principal viola in the Olathe Civic Orchestra and the Clayton County Symphonic Orchestra in Lovejoy, Georgia. She recently was voted Outstanding Elementary String Educator of the Year for the Northeast District of the Kansas Music Educator's Association. |
